If you are considering these procedures, the information provided will give you a basic understanding but it can't answer all your questions since a lot depend on your individual circumstances.

Frequently asked questions:

1. Am I a good candidate for the surgery?
2. What should I expect from my consultation?
3. How is the surgery performed?
4. How is the recovery like?
5. What should I know about my results?

1. Am I a good candidate for the surgery?

The best candidates for these surgeries are women in good health, psychologically stable and realistic in their expectations. Most have between 50 and 60 years old and have skin laxity and contour deformities that justify a surgical procedure.

2. What should I expect from my consultation?

During the consultation, you will learn about the surgery, its limitations and risks, and discuss your needs and concerns. This will help Dr Larocque understand your expectations and determine whether they realistically can be achieved. He will examine your arms or your thighs, evaluate the skin quality, the contour, the excess of fat. He will then explain what can be done and will give you all the information you should know about the surgery. You should be prepared to discuss your medical history.

Finally you will meet with the patient coordinator to discuss surgery fees and scheduling dates.

3. How is the surgery performed?

These plastic surgery procedures are done under general anesthesia and usually take two hours.

In an arm lift, the incisions are placed on the inside of the arm and extend usually from the underarm (axilla) to just above the elbow. The excess of skin and fat is removed and the tissues are tightened and reshaped with internal sutures. The result is a tighter, smoother contour.

In a thigh lift, the incisions are placed in the groin area. Excess tissues are removed resulting in a more proportionate and smoother body contour.

4. How is the recovery like?

Most patients are back to work 2 weeks after the surgery. Your discomfort can be controlled by medication prescribed by Dr Larocque.

5. What should I know about my results?

The smoother tighter contouring that results from these procedures are apparent almost immediately although initially obscured by some bruising and swelling. The skin quality is dramatically improved both in appearance and feel.
